On the windy hills above Lake Turkana in Marsabit County, northern Kenya, 365 wind turbines make up Africa’s largest wind farm, with a capacity of 310 megawatts.
It was inaugurated by President Uhuru Kenyatta in July 2019, and according to one of its investors it produces about 17% of the electricity generated in Kenya. The project took nearly a decade to build in a remote region and is part of Kenya’s shift towards renewable energy.
