Africa Memorial Day

An annual day honouring our ancestors and the millions who gave their lives for Africa’s land, dignity and freedom.

A day to remember, to learn and to awaken

Africa Memorial Day (AMD) is an annual observance led by the Correct Connect Africa Foundation, with Africans on the continent and in the diaspora, to commemorate and celebrate the memory of our ancestors.

It honours the named and unnamed millions of Africans who were killed or martyred defending their lands, peoples, cultures, identity, dignity and freedom: the heroes and heroines of liberation and independence, and the enslaved forebears who never surrendered their fight for freedom.

Through the day we celebrate their legacy: awakening individual and collective consciousness, drawing lessons from the past, and inspiring a bold, selfless commitment to build a future of dignity, respect and pride for Africa and all her children.

“What is the vision of leadership and governance in Africa?” is more than a casual question; it is an existential challenge. AMD 2026 asked whether those in power truly serve the needs, hopes and destiny of African peoples, and what must be confronted, corrected and rebuilt to realign leadership with Africa’s aspirations.
