The Great Green Wall

Founded
2007, launched by the African Union

The Great Green Wall is an African-led initiative, launched by the African Union in 2007, to restore the degraded lands of the Sahel and the Sahara’s edge.

It is being carried out in 22 African countries. Its goals for 2030 are to restore 100 million hectares of degraded land, store 250 million tonnes of carbon and create 10 million green jobs, so that communities can stay and prosper on their land.

These are targets for 2030, not results already achieved.

Traditional uses of plants and animals are recorded as cultural knowledge and credited to the communities who hold it. They are not medical advice. Never use a plant to treat illness without a qualified health professional.
